No matter who we vote for, we get the same thing
Why does it feel like no matter what we do, who we vote for, we always seem to get the same thing? It appears, for decades in Australia, politicians acting in the national interest is a distant memory.
Is it because they are weak, uncaring, incompetent or worse corrupt? I think it could be a combination of all those things, but it is possible it is simpler than that. There is a common core, a group of people with simple motives that work in the background, between all parties.
Like approaching absolute zero, -273.15 degrees C, a place where frozen water seems to re-liquify, then escape the container, getting close to the core presents bizarre results.
Most people involved in the rank and file of political parties, unions and corporations are great, well-meaning people. People with a heart for the nation. They grow frustrated by the same things those on the outside do. Many just do their small part and hope for the best.
I have had the pleasure of building businesses from scratch outside of politics, and outside of political influence. I have also had the benefit of reaching the rotten core of a major political party, in my case the NSW Liberals. Like reaching absolute zero, weird things start to happen as you enter the inner sanctum. It is a rare thing for an otherwise accomplished man, without political ambition, that did not grow up in the young libs as a hack to reach that place. It gives one an interesting perspective.
Firstly, it is wildly insane, there is very little stable logic, calm reason or even common sense applied. It is screamy, shouty, nasty – oh boy is it nasty, and just hopeless. The core lacks vision, determination and leadership.
It was not always this way, but then again, the culprits of our political and national demise were never this powerful and omnipresent. Most people (not all) in the core, at the top of the pile got there by transacting, trading, stacking branches, playing stupid factional games, pretending not to be playing stupid factional games and selling out their values, morals and principles to the real enemy of our prosperity – the lobbyist class. Hired gun lobbying - investigate it.
It reaches in to just about every aspect of our society today. It pays for advertising, influencing media; it places people into corporate jobs; Government bodies (like the CSIRO and Climate Change Authority); it places people into the core of your political parties (State executives, state directors and disputes panels) and places people into parliament.
It does not end there, it takes a direct interest in who your Prime Minister and Premiers are, Labor/Liberal it makes no difference. We saw this when Tony Abbott rightly took on the lobbyists, head on, and the bastards rolled him. They stole the elected Prime Minister from Australia and set us on a crash course with common sense.
Now it is shut the real power generation – replace it with hope. Very profitable but highly dysfunctional hope. It even pays for independent campaigns. Sad but true.
They employ people from both sides in their lobby firms and get on better with each-other than anyone else. Much of what you read, see and hear is contrived, it is architected by lobbyists, to build pressure on politicians, to build pressure on business, to cover a bad outcome, to drive for a worse one.
Expert at pragmatism, making people just accept the most hopeless outcomes, relying on apathy.
Don’t play along.
Those of you involved in senior positions in political parties, those of you lucky enough to be in parliament, all Australians in all walks of life, don’t accept it anymore.
Drive for real policy, not corporate favour, put Australia first, after all we all must live with the consequences of the horrible, rigged, disgusting outcomes we have been get selling out to the lobbyist core.
Warm that frozen core, come away from absolute zero, make Australia and her future generations your first, second and last priority.
Time is short.
