MEDIA RELEASE: Liberal Party hits out at democracy advocate with enforcement order
“People are sick of politicians for a reason, and this cruel move by the Liberal Party leadership, demonstrates everything wrong with the broken politics of this country.” Matthew Camenzuli
During the last federal election, democracy advocate and political commentator, Matthew Camenzuli, took action to bring about democratic reform within the Liberal Party. Mr Camenzuli was determined to give voice to the members in order to ensure that lobbyists and factional players were not orchestrating preselections. In an unprecedented move, they expelled him from the Party - and the powerful NSW State Executive - a position he was democratically elected into.
Coinciding with the Federal AGM this week, the Director of the Liberal Party, Andrew Hirst, has refused any negotiations and offers to pay, proposed by Mr Camenzuli. Instead, a letter of demand was sent to him earlier this week.
Mr Camenzuli said, “this legal action has come at great personal cost. But I am determined to ensure that the Australian people have the best quality representation and that their voices are heard.”
“The Liberal party leadership is determined to denigrate and damage people who want to bring about positive change. By punishing me for defending the Australian people, they betray all of the liberal values that made the party great.”
